 1920's Style

The twenties is the decade in which fashion moved into the modern era. It was the decade in which women first gave up the more constrictive clothing & footwear of preceding years and started to don comfier clothes (such as short skirts or pants). Read more about the twenties...

 

1930's Style

The most characteristic U.S. fashion trend from the thirties to the end of World War II was the focus on the shoulders, with butterfly sleeves, banjo sleeves, and overstated shoulder pads for both men and women. The thirties also saw the first widespread use of synthetic fibres, notably rayon for dresses and viscose for liners and intimate apparel, and man-made nylon stockings. 1940's Style

The earliest 1940s fashions were a repeat of the lightheartened thirties.  Shortly after, fabric rationing started with World War 2, so like many things in life fashion and style became way more simple, without the fancy accessories seen pre-war or post 1945. Read more about forties fashion...

 

1950's Style

Following the great depression and second World War, two decades of deprivation and struggle were finally over and replaced with a new fear - nuclear war. However, by the 1950's wartime restrictions and rations were largely removed. In the USA and parts of Europe, a fresh prosperity was born out of the ashes.
